Strategic Agreement between METLEN and Karatzis Group for the Largest Standalone Energy Storage Unit in Greece

Athens, Greece – October 10, 2025METLEN Energy & Metals (RIC: MYTr.AT, Bloomberg: MYTIL.GA, ADR: MYTHY US) and the Karatzis Group of Companies are entering into a new strategic partnership through their participation in a joint investment scheme with shares of 49% and 51%, respectively, for the development, construction, operation, and energy management of a 330MW / 790MWh electricity storage unit in Thessaly.

This is the largest standalone energy storage project initiated to date in Greece. The investment complements and expands the collaboration between the two Groups for the sale and absorption of green energy, which since August 2024 has involved the implementation of a portfolio of photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 262 MW in the same area.

The project’s implementation is expected to be completed within the second quarter of 2026. Through this investment, METLEN will undertake the construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility via M Renewables. It is worth noting that M Renewables, part of METLEN’s Energy Sector, has extensive experience in executing complex Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, with presence and operations across five continents. In 2024 alone, METLEN completed storage projects totaling approximately 0.7 GWh, while also being in the final stage of agreements for third-party projects totaling 2.2 GWh.

Through strategic partnerships such as this one with the Karatzis Group, METLEN reaffirms its leading role in strengthening energy security and driving the green transition, creating the Utility of the next day.
