Nana Beach Hotel’s beach has been awarded the Blue Flag 2012

On the beach of Nana Beach Hotel, the Blue Flag was hosted for 2012. During the last years, Drapanos Beach, the Hotel’s beach, has been constantly awarded by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, which is the organisation also responsible for the “Blue Flag” programme in Greece.

The conditions for the participation in the programme are the fulfilment of 32 criteria. These criteria concern the environmental education and information, such as activities that actively promote the protection of the natural environment of the beach, printed information and displayed conduct instructions for the beach; the quality of the swimming waters, which is confirmed with sample measurements; the environmental management, such as the periodic cleaning of the beach from rubbish, cigarette butts, sufficient hygiene facilities with controlled sewerage system; the safety of the bathers, lifeguard supplies, first aid, services such as trained lifeguards, direct access to telephone, safe exit to the beach and care for people with disabilities.

As a volunteer environmental sign, the Blue Flag is awarded to 3849 beaches and marines, all over the world. In our country, 394 beaches and 9 marines have been awarded. In Crete, the Blue Flags reached 97 beaches. Our country is in the 2nd place globally, among 46 countries.

The flag hoisting ceremony took place on the hotel’s beach, with the participation of the hotel’s guests, as well as the supervisors and staff of Nana Beach.
